Serving more neighbors as food assistance declines
As we move through summer, the need for food assistance continues to grow. As reported in Friday’s New York Times, more than 22,000 New Yorkers lost SNAP food assistance last month, representing more than $5 million in lost benefits each month. More is to come.
I was grateful for the opportunity to speak with The Times about what we are seeing firsthand. When people lose benefits, the impact goes far beyond the immediate loss of food assistance. These changes are placing additional pressure on individuals and families who are already struggling to afford food, and on organizations like New York Common Pantry that are working to help fill the gap.
