Getting by in the Era of SNAP cuts
Recent federal changes are reshaping access to food assistance and nutrition. Due to stricter eligibility and work requirements applied to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), individuals and families will be faced with reduced benefits.
As a result, more people will rely on pantries and emergency food providers. New York Common Pantry (NYCP) is already seeing longer lines and an increased demand for our services. NYCP’s dedicated case managers are working tirelessly to support our guests, from determining eligibility through the application process.
To meet the rising need, NYCP is advocating to protect food access and to support the emergency food network by asking elected State representatives and Council members to increase funding in the fiscal year 2027 budget for programs that will ensure people can retain access to food benefits.
We invite you to read the full Spring Pantry Press to learn more and to donate to help us feed New Yorkers in need.
