Hunger Action Month: Pantry to Plate

In honor of Hunger Action Month, New York Common Pantry launched Pantry to Plate, inviting chefs to transform the fresh, wholesome ingredients in our pantry packages into delicious, balanced meals.

Every two weeks, guests receive a package filled with fresh produce, proteins, grains, and dairy—ingredients designed to nourish households and inspire what’s possible in the kitchen.

To kick it off, Chef Michael Fraino, Supervising Chef at Restaurant Associates, took on the challenge, creating a Caribbean Turkey Lentil and Grain Bowl. His dish is built around rotating ingredients in our pantry packages: green plantains, rice, bulgur, black beans, lentils, bell peppers, onions, ground turkey, and cabbage.

As Chef Michael showed, there are creative possibilities when families have access to fresh ingredients.

Your monthly gift goes toward ensuring families can receive healthy pantry staples they can turn into creative and nutritious plates.
